Episode 2 of the Empire of Dreams Documentary majors on the rampant immigration of the Latino Americans from Cuba and Mexico to the United States in the years 1880-1942. This immigration was encouraged by the rapidly growing economy in the United States. In 1898, the United States helped Cuba and Puerto Rico gain independence from being colonized by Spain. However, the United States forcefully took hold of Puerto Rico and made it their colony.
It also talks of Juan Salvador, who immigrated to the United States from Mexico due to a revolution that was going on. Along with him were his children (a son and two daughters) and his wife. Juan Salvador grew to become a very successful businessman in the United States. Later on, in the 1920s, there was deportation that was going on, and Emilia Castaneda lost her family that was deported to Mexico. Last, Puerto Ricans rebelled against the United States...
