Japan and China have been making news headlines for all the wrong reasons since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. I decided to highlight their rich religious culture because sometimes we should choose to see the good in bad even when it is difficult. It is interesting to learn about gods, goddesses, and worshiping through the sculptures made by the two Asian countries. Whether modern or ancient, their art is the most religious and visual than any I have come across. The history of Asian Art is primarily influenced by the various religions that existed then especially Buddhism, Islam, and even Hinduism. Religion is a cultural system that allows people to be mythical and have beliefs and rituals that help shape who they are and give them a sense of being. For this project, I did an online visit to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, where a history of the different regions exists to back up the beautiful art. The other sources that help are the Ancient History Encyclopedia, online art libraries, and other art Asian art museums in the United States of America.
Chinese Buddhism
Although Buddhism originated in India, its influence on Asian countries is evident in their pieces of art. The strength of the religion is puzzling as different countries incorporate it into their healthy lives. Interestingly Chinese changed some things and beliefs about the Buddha to their suiting. They believed in a combination of Buddha and their gods, enlarging the enlightened concept to a god they would pray to when they needed help. The combination of religion is kinder controversial to me because we grow up believing in one God and a single religion. The Asian Art Museum has a collection f the earliest statue of Buddha in china with is made of bronze to signify the importance the Chinese people placed on it. The piece of art is evidence of the mixture of style, including Indian Buddha, chines gods, and even Greek and Roman inspiration.
