Riley Snorton investigates the connection between transness and blackness in cross-gendered escape modes, that is, from enslavement. The author describes black gender nonconformity narratives that link theft and cross-dressing and assesses fugitivity and fungibility in relation to the discussed above. Snorton has concentrated on Mary Jones instances. The first example is the black sex worker (cross-dressing) who was born free. The second example entails Mary Anne Waters.
