While the Tang Dynasty precedes the Song Dynasty as rulers of China, the differences between them are different especially because of their different technological advantages and relations with “barbarians” or outsiders, as well as their differences in terms of political control and military power. In general, the Tang dynasty is much more powerful in terms of its military capabilities as compared to the Song dynasty. The implications of this have very significant effects on how did these eras protect their own lands, advanced their technological prowess, as well as unify their own realms. Since the Tang dynasty was more powerful, it was able to hold off a lot of invasions and protect its territories.
