The condition usually involves rapid, uncontrollable movements or vocal outbursts. It is widespread among children between ages 5 and 6 and can get severe until age 12. The vocal tics include too much blinking, quick movements of the arms, legs, and facial expressions. Other areas that can experience rapid movement include the legs, arms, grunts, and throat clearing. One thing to note is that a child can only experience vocal tic or motor tics but not both. Also, transient tics are usually common during childhood development. However, their persistence is the leading cause of concern. An individual is usual diagnosed with the condition when they have a persistent or chronic tic in a single form for more than one year.
