Explain the Diagnostic Criteria for Your Assigned Substance-Related and Addictive Disorder
Cannabis or marijuana use can be highly addictive. In the United States (U.S.), approximately 5% of Americans meet the criteria for cannabis use disorder (Williams & Hill, 2019). However, the disorders are more common in males than in females. One of the effects of cannabis use is that it affects daily routine. Cannabis use results in amotivational syndrome (AS). AS refers to the lack of desire or ambition for anything. Cannabis addiction develops gradually, and because marijuana intoxication does not produce observable symptoms, people often smoke it daily. Frequent users of marijuana also tend to use other drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, and cocaine (Williams & Hill, 2019).
