You outlined a proper mechanism of helping your client. Dialectical behavior therapy works well if the client cooperates and allows the instructor to provide the solutions applied in their years of experience. Your client should respond well and recover from losing a relationship. I believe she sees the reason to move on and start again. Issues to do with relationships could be tricky to handle, forcing someone to behave in specific ways.
Other than your approach, I thought of a different approach. Under psychotherapy, you identified DBT, but transference focused physiotherapy (TFT) can as well work.
