As a result, registered nurses receive the authority to practice nursing activities as per the state’s requirements. This paper discusses my understanding of registered nurses and why I have chosen to pursue a nursing career. I understand that registered nurses provide patient care with compassion. They also possess essential skills and attributes that enhance care provision. These include communication, critical thinking, confidence, integrity, competence, and professionalism. I also understand that registered nurses have varying responsibilities in their different specialties for patient care. For instance, registered nurses evaluate patients’ health conditions, administer relevant nursing interventions and medications, monitor patients’ progress, and document patient health details. Registered nurses are also responsible for public health and educating patients and their families. They provide emotional support and advise the patient about their diagnosis and medications. Where I work, registered nurses can start blood transfusions or perform roles that are not in the scope of the LPN. We go to them for advice or help when needed. Furthermore, I understand that registered nurses can also perform varying non-clinical roles.
