Summary of Learning Style
The Vark questionnaire indicated a learning style with scores of visual-6, aural-5 Read/write-8 kinesthetic-8 indicating a multimodal learner. The term learning style denotes to a personal means of collecting, computing, expounding, classifying and scrutinizing information (Kharb, Samanta, Jindal & Singh, 2013). The results indicate a leaning towards the use of the printed word as the most appropriate way to receive and conceive information. Additionally, the learner relies on their experiences, real-world events and practice. Even so, the other auditory modalities assist the learner when pursuing or disseminating information. A score of six on the visual scale highlights that the learner best collects and scrutinizes information from what they see. Reliance on the auditory faculties identifies the learner as an individual that likes to hear their information.
Personal Learning Style and Strategies
The identified learning strategies include kinesthetic strategies, aural strategies, visual strategies, and reading and writing strategies. This is a multimodal learning preference which highlights that the learner uses various modes of data presentation. Visual learning styles incorporate the use of sight as the primary learning mode. The learner could, for instance, prefer taking notes rather than being involved in discussions. They would prefer to sit at the front of the class to get a better view of the teacher. Moreover, if the teacher applies colorful presentations and illustrations, then the learner would get more information. An active visual learner relies on questions that tend to paint a picture about a certain situation. An auditory learning strategy relies on audible information. These learners participate in discussion groups, listening to the explanation by other students and talking through how things are done. Furthermore, if they do need to read, then they would do so by reading the words out loud. They may also talk to themselves as a means of reinforcing gathered information. Kinesthetic learners, on the other hand, prefer collecting information by using their sense of touch and imagination. They tend to be restless, but require frequent breaks in between learning sessions. They are livelier during discussions and often use gestures and hands. They mostly remember seeing things that were done, but tend to forget what was said. Participation in activities is their main source of information. A learner who prefers reading and writing will be mostly found with their heads buried in books. They pay more attention to the written word, hence will spend a lot of time in the library. An idea they learn through the other sensory faculties is re-captured in the form of words. Diagrams are also described in words. They prefer teachers that have laden sentences. All these describe a multimodal learner that apprehends the world through all senses. The student learns more effectively through a blend of activities that stimulate the auditory, read and write, visual and aural senses.
The Vark results, as indicated, highlight a personal strategy more inclined towards an even contribution of time to all sensory faculties. However...
