Introduction
There has been interest in information technology among health care practitioners with the aim of realizing better clinical efficiencies. However, even with the use of technology, inappropriate design affect the workflow decisions (Koppel, & Kreda, 2010). Flowcharts visually display the processes and step sequence in healthcare settings that are followed to improve health outcomes. The flow graphically represents the labor and delivery service steps to facilitate the process and improve nursing care where inefficiencies are eliminated.

The flowchart process describes the delivery process of pregnant women from checking into the hospital to final discharge. The simplified version highlights that when birth is imminent the administration must be quick to deal with the situation when the mother is whisked to the delivery room. However, when the initial assessment shows that there is a need for caesarean section requirement, this is undertaken. In the case that the birth is not near as previously anticipated, the mother is allowed to register if this was not done. However, there is a need for more clarity that when birth is not imminent the mothers ought to visit the hospital later. In the case that there are no complications after birth, the child and mother are discharged after 48 mothers. However, in case there are complications, the mother is readmitted for close monitoring and assessment. The last phase is discharge, and discharge planning where it is expected that the mother and newborn will be picked by family or friends.

In L & D check and registration process, the clinicians and registration officers are responsible for recording, storing and verifying information. The nurses then use this information to follow up on the case where there is a need for C-section or there is imminent birth. In the case, the mothers are not ready there he nurses advice them to go home. The nurse then sends the other mothers to the delivery room. The nurses and midwives work together in the delivery room, and when there are C-sections required surgeons will conduct the operations. Physicians are also involved in monitoring the health outcomes of the child and mother especially when there are complications.

Miesnik & Stringer, (2002) point out that to improve health outcomes for pregnant women, health practitioners ought to be familiar with the technology. The ultrasound technology is frequently used before the birth of a child, while the electronic fetal monitor is useful to monitor risks and heart rates. The vital signs are taken, and other technologies are infusion masks, incubator and oxygen therapy.
