The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) were passed into legislation in March of 2010. The adoption of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was targeted to improve the nursing workforce, increasing access to nurses and provide financial assistance to those working in health institutions and higher education and the underserved areas (ANA, 2010). One of the key provisions is increasing the number of nurses and there are grant programs set aside for health institutions and training programs to address health care concerns. Through the grants health organizations and physician training education programs focusing on training individuals to improve health care delivery. Additionally, the federal loans have been increased targeting nursing students given that the cost of education has increased while students face difficulties paying, falling enrollment in some nursing programs is partly because of the high costs (ANA, 2010).
