Tuesdays with Morrie is a book that leaves the reader with a mixed set of emotions. As one reads through the text, they are grabbed by the various elements of sadness and happiness, as the book brings out some of the most important life lessons. The book is particularly interesting relative to the discussions that it brings to light such as, death, love, marriage, culture, and regret among some of the issues affecting the society(Albom, 1997). Most importantly, the lessons from the book are from a dying professor and his student. The relationship between the narrator Mitch Albom and his professor, Morrie Schwartz, is one that is riddled with a lot interesting paradigm shifts and thought processes. What is most important though is the sessions that both Morrie and Mitch had on the professor’s final days every other Tuesday until he finally died(Albom, 1997).
The relationship between the professor and the students is one that is filled with some intriguing development and discussions that build on some of the most sensitive life lessons. One of the main element that comes out is the strength of their relationship. In the society, there are quite a number of relationships that one forms as they go along and grow socially and even professionally. One of the aspect that stands out and one that is reflected by the relationship between the professor and his student is age(Albom, 1997). While in some of the quotas, it is referred as a number, it is one of the aspects that associated with wisdom. Anyone that wishes to grow in their life struggle regardless of which ever the area, have to associate with people that have had more experience than they have. One has to relate with people that are older than they are in every other area of their life for them to learn. In a synonymous example the main reason that children are able to grow and develop various skills in life is because they form healthy relations with their parents and teachers along with other guardians in the society(Albom, 1997). This is the same case that can be seen between Morrie and his student Mitch. The element of wisdom that Morrie has relative to the life experiences. These are experiences that have valuable lessons that Mitch can benefit from relative to the fact that he is younger and may not have developed the same level of knowledge and wisdom as his older professor. This further sheds some light on why most of the mentor relationships involve an older and younger party. In the relationship between the student and the professor, the latter is seen to offer advice to his student who is much younger. The relationship is forged early on when in campus and the bond is restored sixteen years later. Despite the gap in time that thetwo do not have contact, they are able to share in an intricate way much the same way as a mentor impacts his followers(Albom, 1997).
He offers insights into some of the most important aspects in the human society relative to marriage, love, death and regrets among other subjects.
