Type 1 diabetes has been established to affect more than three hundred and seventy thousand adults in the United Kingdom. The illness is triggered by the damaging of the cells responsible for the production of insulin (Atkinson, Eisenbarth, & Michels, 2014). NICE last produced a guideline on type 1 diabetes in 2004, and therefore the last update incorporates new topics and research findings on the disease that were not present in the previous update (Atkinson, Eisenbarth, & Michels, 2014). Some of the new topics captured include new insulin formulations, identification, quantification and management of the prejudiced responsiveness of hypoglycaemia, examination of thyroid disease, application of ketone measurements in nursing and prevention of ketoacidocis and referral criteria needed for transplantation therapies (Atkinson, Eisenbarth, & Michels, 2014). The guide illustrates ways for attaining optimal results for adult patients suffering from type 1 diabetes as well as further enlightens provision delivery and design.
