There are some factors to consider when choosing treatment for pediatric clients with mood disorder. Patient with mood disorder requires pharmacological treatment to control symptoms and restore their function (Christophersen & Vanscoyoc, 2013).
Decision one
I would prefer to prescribe Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) for the patient since it is taken once in a day. They appropriate for children because it is non-addictive and have few side effects (Stuart,2014). I would specifically prescribe Fluoxetine (Prozac) or Sertraline (Zoloft), these two drugs are among the antidepressant approved by the Federal Drug Association to treat children (Birmaher, 2016). In addition, and children have more body water with less and plasma albumin that help the drugs to bind well
Decision Two
Alternatively, I would prescribe tricyclic antidepressants like clomipramine and tianeptine because it is effective for children. Both have been used to treat symptoms of anxiety and any obsessive-compulsive behavior. Tricyclic antidepressants increase brain activity, producing serotonin, hence effective in treating mood disorder (Barkley, 2014).
