Nurse Virginia Henderson developed the theory, and it is also known as the theory of modern nursing. In this theory, Henderson expounds the relevance of granting patients their independence when hospitalized. In her opinion, that marks the difference between medicine and nursing; she reveals that the practice would allow patients to recover quickly. Notably, this would happen in four aspects; physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social needs (Marudha, 2017). I chose this theory because many patients often feel neglected when nurses practice the theory. Due to this fact, it is necessary to inform both the nurses and patients that a measured level of independence is crucial. Consequently, nurses and those in the making shall learn how to develop therapeutic plans, which they will use to support patients regain the strength to care for themselves without any external assistance.
