In the last decades, the health care sector has faced various changes in technology. Technological advancement has continued to grow, changing all segments of delivery that embrace it. In medical health care, technological advances have increasingly played a major role in all the medical services, from patient registration to data monitoring, from lab tests to self-care tools. The main reason for this advancement in the health sector is to provide quality care to patients and to ensure secure storage of patient’s information. In the past, perspectives developed towards the way medical services were received. These historical perspectives hold various stands on how health care is received among patients. With the overall goal of improving health service provision and reduction in costs of hospitalization, medical technology has been successfully employed in medical environments.
The two different historical perspectives on the delivery of health care in America are the public ideas about hospitals and availability of health care (Rothstein, 1995). Historically, according to Rothstein, the only recognized authority in providing treatment for patients has been the doctors. In the historical moments, doctors were seen as the only experts who could carefully handle medicine and administer treatment to patients. The rest of the people who were not specialists in medicine could not deliver medication to patients. However, in this era of technological advancements, in a short period, patients are reportedly becoming more educated and active in their health care treatment. Technology is revealing to provide patients with necessary information regarding their illness hence making them aware of how to handle their conditions conveniently.
Concerning public opinion on hospitals, historically, hospitals were viewed as places to go ‘die’. According to the public opinion, hospitals were seen as places where one could easily die due to insufficient medical attention. The lack of technological advancement meant that the services patients expected from hospitals were of low standards and therefore providing a climate for patients to die. However, in the current days, patients are now seeing hospitals as a symbol of relief and an opportunity to get better due to the technological advancements (Cohen & Hanft, 2004). The advancements in technology allow many hospitals to provide improved features that enhance the survival of the patients. However, patient care still needs development in other elusive areas such as cultural diversity. It is hoped that technology advancement will necessitate the provision of better patient care by health practitioners to diverse backgrounds.
Basing on the perspectives discussed above, it is clearly evident that health care provision cannot achieve its set goals of quality heath provision without using a suitable technology. Technology proves to be the only means through which medical services can be offered efficiently.
