Looking Ahead
Stephen Covey is credited with promoting the imperative to begin with the end in mind. As you start your Master of Science in Nursing program, you are asked to consider how your program of study will help you to achieve your long-term goals.
In this week of the Foundations of Graduate Study course, you reexamine the professional and academic goals you identified in Week 1. You then create a Professional Development Plan to guide your progress through the MSN program. Doing so not only allows you to articulate how you will stay current in the complex and rapidly evolving field of health care, it also provides an opportunity to apply the principles of scholarly writing introduced in previous weeks of this course.

Suitability of Walden University on my Journey as a Scholar-Practitioner
The poor service delivery in a public health care center at the age of eleven paved my career choice. I became obsessed with gaining the skills and competence that would help me change the service delivery. I gained more motivation following the support of my friend's mom who allowed me to visit a private health center she worked during my high school vacation as a volunteer. The service delivery differences between private and public hospitals is huge, and with significant number of people more likely to visit public hospitals, I believe that it is time for the public sector to become more competent in their service delivery.
The professional and academic goals identified in Week 1 are below
MSN Public Health Nursing will help me gain the skills and knowledge needed to achieve that dream. While finding a school that compliments and enhances one's skills may be challenging to most, my choice for Walden University was easy. The vision of the School of Nursing is evidence to my goal. The vision and mission are focused on envisioning health, nursing, and other sciences to aid in the transformation of service provision to boost human life span, from the individual to local, and global society ("School of Nursing Mission and Vision - Walden University - Acalog ACMS™", 2017). To accomplish the vision, and mission, the social changes and outcome of the school and the former graduates have demonstrated that the school strategies have helped improve nursing and the health sector.
The use of online studying method to its student-centered mode of education suits my busy schedule and encourages critical thinking and practical experiences that are important in enhancing the quality of nursing practitioner ("Online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree | Walden University", 2017). The embracement of modern technology in studying and projected outcome will make me achieve my dream with fewer constraints as I will learn to be an effective leader, gain skills to address the disparities within the health sector in the bid to make quality healthcare accessible to all ("Online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree | Walden University", 2017).

Professional Development Plan
The professional development plan is a private documentation that is generated providing guidelines as well as a register of actions required while undertaking my Master of Science in Nursing Program. The plan enables the accomplishment of set goals in a way that is satisfactory to me as an individual involved. It also ensures the achievement of objectives that will last for a long duration, which is important in the practice of my nursing career. Furthermore, the plan also provides me with a platform that enables the application of standards of academic writing. This is an important aspect since it provides me as a master’s student with an opportunity to write up good papers that have adequate support materials providing evidence. Through this, I am also equipped with the necessary knowledge to establish better researches, which are important in filling the gap of knowledge that is present (Narayanasamy & Penney, 2014).
While developing the professional development plan, as a student of the Master of Nursing Program there is, need to incorporate the seven habits of highly effective people. This assists in the achievement purposes efficiently. The first three habits revolve around the change from dependence to interdependence, which involves the mastery of things as a person on my own. The habits include being proactive as an individual; I need to pursue learning by considering the central point of influence and striving consistently to expand it, besides beginning by having the possible result in mind. This enables me as a student to have a vision for the future, therefore, enabling appropriate working as well as planning. It allows me to make necessary modifications while undertaking study activities in order to establish good preferences in the end. The other habit is prioritizing things accordingly, which provides me as a student with an opportunity to determine what to consider first. This facilitates proper leadership and the management of learning in a well-organized manner to accomplish goals (Covey, 2014).
The next three habits surround interdependence, which involves combining efforts with other individuals. This includes thinking of a win-win situation which is a code established according to features for interacting and collaborating with other people, besides seeking initially to understand others rather than vice-versa by applying ethos, logos as well as pathos. This generates an enabling environment necessary for providing resolution to issues and showing care to others while learning. Another habit is synergizing, which involves the combination of strengths of several individuals. This promotes the spirit of teamwork significantly essential for the achievements of the aims set by the master of nursing students. The last habit revolves around unceasing improvements. This involves me sharpening my skills efficiently by using resources that are most current and undertaking more research studies. This enables me to develop new programs and policies relevant to the nursing practice (Harper & Lena, 2012).
