What Stress-Relieving Activities Do You Use of Plan to Use in The Workplace as a Nurse?
The nursing practice comes with a lot of stress factors that may jeopardize patient care and that of the nurse. These sources of stress could be issues like draining interpersonal relationships, long working hours and increased workload (Lockley et al., 2007). Therefore, the management of these stressors would assist the nurses to continue providing quality healthcare. Most literature highlights various coping mechanisms in correspondence to the sources of the stressor. Some researchers provided that nurses should be subjected to work hour limits so as to reduce occurrences of fatigue (Lockley et al., 2007). Other self-care initiatives include stress-relieving activities like getting enough restorative sleep, eating healthy foods and getting some physical exercise during break hours. Moreover, stress-prone nurses should look for stress buddies—someone the nursing practitioner can confide in and talk to about their problems. Purposeful communication is also another stress-reduction strategy since information within the healthcare organization would be shared openly with everyone (American Nurses Association, 2014).
