There are indications that close to 50% of papers in health care have serious statistical errors. One of the errors that are commonly identified is in the assumption. In most cases, some researchers come up with assumptions, then look for data that supports their hypothesis. This is statistically wrong since scientific research should not make any hypothesis before analyzing the available data.
Another place where statistics is used inappropriately in research is in the area of research significance. Ideally, research significance implies the importance that is attached to the research. In the general use of the English language, significance is used to denote the rate at which something happens in a given place.
