Social factors associated with the situation of the "underinsured."
Social factors, including, poverty and health status, are some of the factors that plague the underinsured. As Lu and Jonsson (2008) suggests, the gap between the social classes determines the quality of healthcare and the institutions at which these individuals receive health care. The poor who attends to low health facilities to receive low quality healthcare, because they lack better insurance plans. The quality of healthcare in such institutions is usually low because, these facilities do not get enough funding to update the quality of healthcare. According to Link and McKinley (2010), poverty is as a result of a combination of factors, among them, the level of education, level of income as well as personal or spouse’s employment status. In most cases, the underinsured tends to be of low academic achievements, without work and even their couples are out of work or have no stable income.
