Introduction
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the year 2015, there were a total of 229,715 babies that were born to teenagers. These were women who were between the ages, 15 and 19 years. While this may seem like a large figure, it is actually a drop from the year 2014. This was a drop of 8% between 2015 and 2014(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). According to the CDC, while the reasons for the drop are not clear, there are indications that more teenagers are abstaining from sex, while others are using birth control pills. However the number of teenagers getting pregnant is still high and there is the need to reduce the number even lower. This is considering that teen pregnancy in America is still higher than other industrialized countries and there still disparities between races and relative to geography (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). Sex education is the best approach and one that is integrated into the learning processes along with behavioral changes.
Goal
The goal of the program is to ensure that sex education is started off early on in the children’s life. This way they are able to internalize the elements of sex especially unsafe practices.
