According to Nicole Galan and Ann Pietrangelo (2016), heavy and irregular menstrual periods result from different factors such as medications in which hormonal medications, anticoagulants, and anti-inflammatory drugs alter one’s menstrual periods. Additionally, the side effects of using intrauterine devices to control birth can result in massive and irregular bleeding. Secondly, heavy and irregular bleeding can be as a result of an inherited blood disorder. Nicole and Ann maintain that inheriting genes that code for an abnormal blood disorder which alters normal clotting can cause massive and irregular bleeding. Thirdly, abnormal menstrual bleeding can result from an imbalance in a woman’s hormones. Progesterone and estrogen hormones regulate the adenomyosis and proliferation of the endometrium (Galan, RN & Pietrangelo, 2016). The existence of these hormones in higher concentrations may lead to irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding. More often than not, hormonal imbalances are prevalent among women who are approaching their menopause, and girls who just began their menstruation within the past 18 months.
In the Scripture, according to the Gospel of Mark 5: 26, the Bible records that the woman had suffered many things of many physicians in a move to alleviate her 12-years bleeding condition. During the era of ‘the year of the Lord,’ there was a limited source of information that could facilitate proper diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Therefore, I think the most likely cause of the woman’s condition was as a result of the wrong diagnosis by physicians which led to the admission of wrong hormonal medications in effect led to an imbalance between the woman’s progesterone and estrogen hormones concentrations affecting her menstrual periods.
