Reflection on Nursing Home Healthcare Delivery
Participating in a nursing home has been rewarding in terms of increased knowledge. Currently, there is an adoption of delivery care system that is based on patient-centered care. This new approach leads to the infusion of more dignity to both the caregivers and patients. This new approach to care has been initiated to solve the persistent problem of lack of dignity in the long term care (Koren, 2010). In addition, the introduction of patient-centered culture that incorporates competent nurses, collaborative teamwork, and autonomous nursing practice leads to more engaging care delivery through active involvement that reduces boredom. The collaboration technique in the care delivery has been beneficial since it focuses on the interdisciplinary care hence it allows for ownership in the decision making processes (Koren, 2010).
Alongside technological advancement, the nurse and non-nursing professionals are collaboration in nursing homes on a regular basis which includes team of dedicated people such as case workers, social workers, pharmacist among others. Thus, it provides a platform for gaining skills. In addition to the introduction of patient-centered approach, the intra-professional collaboration has resulted in satisfaction and acceptance of treatment and care due to team building which helps in the reduction of error, and reduction of burnout issues (Miller, et al, 2002).
Elsewhere, there has been a tremendous approach to healthcare delivery and clinical systems in the nursing homes. It is noted that various chronic infections are associated with the aged in the society and such problems should be monitored in nursing homes. Therefore, an approach of transformation in the nursing home has been beneficial (Miller, et al, 2002). I was fortunate to work alongside the healthcare professionals in these areas who are better prepared to care for the aged with multiple chronic diseases. More so, the most important aspect is the way they implement their adaptive skills, leadership roles and the capacities on change has been helpful. Secondly, the improvement in technology has enhanced better approaches to health care delivery and clinical systems (Adair, et al, 2013).
Technology has given rise to the use of the four-level model to the healthcare delivery. This approach gives a clear distinction between the structure and dynamics of the healthcare system. Based on the model, the healthcare system is categorized into the individual patient level, the care team level, the organization level and the political and economic level for effective operation. Besides, the improvement in technology and its access has ensured the use of portable devices in nursing homes (Adair, et al, 2013). Time wastages have also been minimized due to the use of electronic record system hence patient’s record tracks are kept safely and continuously monitored. In addition, technology has enhanced the delivery of high-quality outcome through prevention of numerous errors and adverse actions such as miscommunication, delays in treatment, failure to rescue patients among others.
