It is essential for the nursing, health and medicine field to continue developing professionals who can continue producing high quality studies and researches to improve their specialty. Due to this, various organizations have initiated several programs aimed at promoting individual and multicenter researches that are competitive for fiscal support from funding agencies. This short paper aims at identifying the major aspects for a successful grant writing.
When considering to write a grant proposal, the research must be having a study question though this only will not make him or her receive the grant, but is central to the grant in providing an overview on how the proposal will be designed. Before, writing the grant, the researcher should provide a testable hypothesis and be able to demonstrate the impacts of the study, by conducting a detailed literature review. This will provide a comprehensive background to avoid studying a topic that has already been studied and published. Having a comprehensive understanding about the literature allows the researcher to frame the importance and innovation of the study. These two factors are important in increasing the chances of getting the proposal approved. Apart from these factors, the following are the elements of a successful grant proposal:
* Narratives. The research needs to provide the purpose, goals and objectives to provide a compelling reason why the proposal should be approved. A background study of the study question will provide this. Secondly, he or she needs to explain the approaches that will applied in accomplishing the objectives of the study. Also those who will be involved in the study should also be included. Thirdly, the researcher should provide a timeline of the project. The start and end date as well as project activities should be included. Finally, the researcher should provide credentials to prove that he or she is capable of undertaking the proposed effort.
* Budget. The researcher should provide cost estimations of the whole project. The funders use it as a blue print to how the project will be implemented and managed.
* Supporting materials. This are included in the appendix. They are used to endorse the applicant or the project itself. The applicant should provide certifications and any relevant information.
* Authorized signatures. Proposals may not be accepted because of the lack of authorized signatures.
* Specifications. The applicant should ensure that he or she follows the guidelines provided by the funding agency. Are the number of pages and format correct?
