Masculinity and femininity influence workplace setting. Men use work for identity, while women are always segregated by their gender.in an act of defiance to establishments and independence from their wives, men engage in compensatory masculinity; which is the use of drugs and sexual carousing to achieve above.
Gender polarization is the notion that women and women are different from each other thus roles and assignment should be allocated differently. Gender polarization is evinced in gender wage gap where female are paid averagely less than their male counterparts. As a result of socialization, women tend to prefer different jobs from the male counterparts.
Sex segregation in place of work manifests in the form of women and men being concentrated in various jobs and occupations. It can also be at the job level, which refers to specific positions workers hold in particular organizations. In factory settings, for example, women do not work too many hours are not assigned to some roles because of the detrimental effects these roles have on their health and ability to perfume household duties.
Sex segregation where women jobs are separated from men is known as ghettoization. While resegregation is when an entire occupation change from one gender to another, Sex segregationhelp regulates wages, occupation, job, sector or segment that involves men attract higher wage scale while those associated with women attract lower wages and little supervision.
Sex segregation is used by authorities to protect women from demanding roles which might be detrimental to their health, this is mandatory exclusions and is provided for by the law. Segregation is used to achieve quarter representation in particular fields like sports, medical institutions among other. It is also used by employers to justify lower wages for women.
According to socialization theory, men and women prefer different kinds of jobs, both men and women look for a job with security, feeling of accomplishment and high income. The society from time traditional demarcated role for both genders, this setting perpetuates gender segregation as women naturally chose to perform tasks that conform to societal demands. The need to maintain social order whereby women are dependent upon men and stay out of labor force also promotes segregation.
The gendered wage gap results from sex discrimination in many establishments. In most institutions, women are paid averagely less than their male counterparts. Jobs associated with women are small in wages and have less authority. Men, therefore, enjoy power at the workplace and higher wages. To reduce the gendered gap, job evaluation is done to determine how pay is assigned to jobs and also determines fair and unfair pay rates. These then can be used to raise wages of low-paying jobs mostly predominated by women.
