The use of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology or information storing devices started several decades ago and has been used in various aspects of life. For example, Delta Airline uses RFID luggage tags to know the owner’s destination, credit cards use it, and the National Animal Identification System uses this technology to register livestock (Weiss, 2018). However, when it comes to the use of information storing devices or the implantation of RFID technology into humans, numerous benefits and ethical issues arise.
The implantation of RFID technology into humans would make life more comfortable and effective. Besides, for the Swedish citizens who already use these devices, they can unlock their car doors and turn on coffee machines by just waving their palm. The RFID chip is lodged under the skin and has a near-field communication capability (Weiss, 2018). In particular, such information storing devices can be used by doctors to monitor the health of patients with chronic diseases.
