Significant Relationships Outside of the Nuclear Family

The nuclear family setup that has received attention as influences people’s perceptions of organizing family life. The family is different from friendships but there are overlaps between the two. However, unlike families, friendships are characterized with choices where there are personal relationships where people interact informally. Most studies focus on the role of family human interactions, while friendships and gender also shape people where interactions may be more intimate. Boundaries in friendships and relationships exist where gendered communication may elicit different reactions from men and women who respond based on societal expectations and perceptions.
The differences between men and women form a sociological point of view focuses on how people interact. For instance, men are more likely to interact with fellow men when they have shared activities and interests. On the other hand, when women interact they normally seek relationships with people who they confide in, to share their feelings where there is mutual trust. Even though men and women desire close friendships based on mutual trust, intimacy, acceptance and rust, the differences arise in how they interact. Some differences may be biological, but socialization plays a big role as men and women have different expectations from friendships, while they are judged harshly when they seem to act out of the norm like close relationships among men may be interpreted that there is homosexuality involved.
