At least no one can ever accomplish anything commanding without listening to what is heard by himself or herself (Drucker, 2014). Through self-reflection, one gets an opportunity to explore inwards and establish the whispers. Self-reflection stimulates care for oneself. Self-reflection is a powerful tool that helps the nurses to gain knowledge and insights about themselves and be able to remain focused towards fitting in the future IOM of nursing. In this paper, I am going to reflect on myself, how I see myself increasing the proportion of nurses with baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020, how I will ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning and how increasing my education will affect how I compete in the job market as well as the impact of higher education on my role in nursing.
According to Kovner et al. (2014), only 50% of the current nursing workforces have a bachelor’s degree in nursing. However, to reduce the high morbidity and mortality rates in our healthcare organizations, a higher percentage of nurses with a baccalaureate degree are required. Having learnt about this need and as person with good vision of improving healthcare services in my country, I have chosen to work hard in my studies and attain a BSN degree by 2019. When my dream comes through, I will have contributed towards increasing the number of nurses with a baccalaureate by 2020.
Immediately I graduate in the year 2019, I hope that I will absorb in the workforce to offer my services as a community nurse.
