Clinical reasoning skills play a vital role in improving patient outcomes. With the increased chronic diseases, healthcare provider’s quick and accurate reasoning skills are crucial (Sommers, 2018). Skilled practitioners with positive clinical reasoning skills are well placed to provide patient-centered care by recognizing, valuing, and being concerned about patient’s preferences, relieving pain, managing continuous care, educating patients, and advocating for disease prevention as the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
Typically, as nurses contemplate interventions that solve patient’s problems, they create mental states to determine if desired outcomes are achieved. As such, reflecting on these experiences and processes helps develop strong clinical reasoning (Sommers, 2018). Through the use of the Optimum Practicum Training model of clinical reasoning, I will be able to develop clinical reasoning skills that instill confidence and competence in their day-to-day practice.
With the rising of chronic and episodic illness in the primary care setting, healthcare providers must make high-quality decisions. Evidence-based management helps nurses to make informed decisions in healthcare settings while considering and respecting their gender, culture, and ethnicity. It involves assimilating research with clinical expertise and patient preference to achieve optimum care (Duffy et al., 2020). Through evidence-based practice, I will be able to develop and implement a course of action for care delivery to impact my patient’s well-being.
