An acid is any chemical compound that, when dissolved in water, releases hydrogen ions (H+) and reacts with water molecules to generate hydronium ions (H3O+) and has a pH lower than 7 ((Ball & Key, 2018). This is also a substance capable of gaining electrons and giving away protons when dissolved in water and its main feature is the presence of hydrogen ion in the molecule. A base is a substance that can accept a proton (H+) or donate a pair of electrons and has a pH above 7. Salt is a chemical compound made up of cations (positively charged ions) linked to anions (negatively charged ions) through an ionic bond.
State three examples, each of acids, bases, and salts commonly used in therapeutic processes. From the examples, you state, select one acid, one base, and one salt and describe how and where they are used in therapeutic processes.
