When a researcher wants to carry out a study, there are two main research methods that can be utilized: the qualitative approach or the quantitative approach. These two methodologies are very different. For example, while the quantitative method typically generates numerical data, qualitative research usually produces non-numerical, textual data. This paper focuses on two peer-reviewed, scholarly research studies: a quantitative research study and a qualitative one. The paper explains why each research study is categorized as being qualitative or quantitative. A rationale is also given for selecting the journals wherein the two articles were published.
Quantitative Research Article
The selected article that is considered as quantitative is the article by Solvik and Struksnes (2018). The researchers themselves have stated that this study uses a quantitative, descriptive design. On the whole, it is a quantitative research study because it has many characteristics of a quantitative study. For example, a large sample size of 160 participants was included as subjects. Unlike qualitative studies that often use a comparatively smaller sample size, quantitative research studies typically include a large number of respondents. Furthermore, data collection was done with the use of structured, closed-ended questionnaires. The study subjects completed the questionnaires individually. In quantitative studies, data collection is usually done with the use of structured questionnaires.
