Quality Improvement Initiative
The implementation of a dynamic and comprehensive system in a health facility has necessitated quality and safety improvement. The provision of quality health services can be optimized through the enactment and implementation of a quality improvement initiative. The implementation of Six Sigma as an instrument for quality development has taken shape in various institutions. It involves five techniques including control, improve, analyze, measure and define. It involves the identification of initial reviews and defining the scope of expectations within the system. Through the implementation of the new system, data is collected to assess the viability of the changes and the possible occurrence or errors and instances. The paper offers a proposal of implementing the Six Sigma initiative as a tool for quality improvement.
The occurrence of an error in the medical field is inevitable. The occurrence of errors is not predictable. The quality improvement initiative in place provides an evaluation technique in which the errors are identified and eliminates either potential or known errors, problems, or failures from the system. Further, the initiative is mandated in designing a process service to curb the occurrence of errors in the field (U. S. Department of Human and Health Services, 2016). The goal of the quality improvement initiative is to offer a solution to the numerous errors recorded in the sector by attempting to establish all the various ways through which a system can fail, evaluate the consequences and the probability of each failure (Fung, Lim, Mattke, Damberg, & Shekelle, 2008). Besides, it provides the viable action to curb the occurrence of the potential errors, failures or problems.
It majorly focuses on computing the quality of health service offered by the health facility through observing its outcomes, processes and structure. The process focusses on service delivery by the medical specialists, experts and attendants. The outcome outlines the final product of the health services offered. The structure is majorly concerned with the availability and accessibility of quality resources within the health institution.
Target Population
The rolling of the program is focussed on the existence and implementation of a medication system in a health facility. The target populace of the initiative is all the stakeholders within the health institution. It analyses the provision of service by the health staff, and their efficiency in curbing the occurrence of errors, mistakes, and failures within the system.
Many benefits would be derived from rolling the program in the various health institutions. Through implementing the initiative, the benefit derived from the health facility would be paramount as compared to the resources that would be allocated to the development and implementation of the process.
The initiative would successfully assess the continuously reported errors in the system, and segregate them to either latent or active errors (Parry, Carson-Stevens, Luff, McPherson, & Goldmann, 2013). Other than identification, the initiative would establish the need to carry out changes in the procedures and policies within the system as it strives to provide quality and effec...
