The Joint Commission is one of the oldest accreditation institutes in the United States. This non-profit organization governs approximately 20,000 health care institutes and organizations in the U.S. Furthermore, they attend to the evaluation of several healthcare programs in the country related to patient safety, enhancement of healthcare services and applications primarily in communities, guaranteeing novel businesses and their advancement in the health field, risk reduction and management, intensive assessment of services and companies, Medicare certification, and team education CITATION JCAnd \l 1033 (The Joint Commission, n.d.).

The Joint Commission is the appropriate accrediting institute for my healthcare organization since it provides assessments and certifications specifically for ambulatory care. This is established in 1975 and now covers approximately 2,200 ambulatory care centers. Additionally, this program deals with various settings such as ambulatory surgery, community health, convenient care, correctional care, diagnostic imaging, federally qualified health care, freestanding emergency care, kidney care or dialysis centers, and others.

Health care organizations that have fulfilled the following requirements are eligible in applying for accreditation from The Joint Commission: 1) The health care organization is located in the U.S. or must be an affiliate of its territories. Given that the health care organization is not within the U.S., it must be directed by the U.S. government, or it must function according to the U.S. Congress.; 2) The health care organization is required to have a license or certificate of registration to operate according to their promised services, if and only if the law mandates it.; 3) The candidate organization prepares an unremitting assessment of their services for their continuous improvement to ensure high-quality care for their patients. Additionally, their methods are thoroughly evaluated by licensed medical professionals who are knowledgeable in the type of services that they offer.; 4) The organization classifies its services correctly and the manner of delivery of the services. It is also required to clarify the methods that it will deliver, whether they will be received by the clients and patients directly or indirectly.; 5) The health care organization provides services that can be assessed using the JCAHO criteria.; 6) For first-time applicants or organizations applying for re-accreditation, there is a minimum of clients and patients required. They are required to follow the paradigm of a 10:2 ratio of the number of patients to the number of active patients.; and 7) The diagnostic and treatment procedures are arranged by a duly licensed and independent medical professional following the state obligations CITATION Thend \l 1033 (The Joint Commission, n.d.).
