The selected podcast from the Johns Hopkins Public Health on Call talks about “what we need to know about COVID-19 to safely reopen K-12 schools in the fall”. Many schools worldwide were forced to close down because of the world pandemic. Reopening schools is one of the crucial decisions that must be made because many parents, teachers, and school staff are still anxious about the safety of going back to school knowing that the virus is not yet eradicated.
Children are often asymptomatic but they can be carriers or vectors of the disease. This might lead to the transmission of the disease to vulnerable family and community members further spreading the disease. However, other countries are trying to send back to school younger children because they do not transmit easily the disease, unlike older children. Others are looking into ways such as dividing the population of the school wherein half will go back to school for the first half of the week while the remaining population will go back in the second half of the week to minimize the people present at school.
