I would prefer to be in the NICU setting. Giving birth to a baby fills parents with joy and yet it can be a complex and complicated process. There are so many changes, physically and emotionally that occur for the baby and its mother after birth (Bird et al., n.d). It is clear that newborn babies need intensive care. My interest is in knowing the technology that is involved in providing specialized care for newborn babies and to establish how the nurses and specialists achieve the care needed.
The babies that need intensive care include those that are born with a low weight that is less than 5.5 pounds, those that are born prematurely, or those born with a medical condition that necessitates specialized care (Williams et al., 2018). Additionally, when mothers give birth to more than one baby, they would need to be placed under specialized care because as opposed to single births, they tend to have low weights (Montanholi, Merighi & Jesus, 2011).
