Pelvic pain is a medical condition that affects the lower part of the women’s abdomen. It may signal ovulation, cramps, and gastrointestinal problems. Pelvic pain can also indicate infections in the reproductive system or other organs surrounding the reproductive organs. The nurse practitioner asks questions about medical history and the symptoms to determine the causes of pelvic pain. Also, the NP or the doctor will perform pelvic tests, physical examination, laparoscopy, and pelvic ultrasound to determine its causes.
Pelvic pain is caused by menstrual pain, ovulation, urinary tract infections, interstitial cystitis, sexually transmitted infections, and endometriosis. Its most common cause is pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID arises when bacteria from the cervix or vagina enter the uterus and take hold.
