Assessment Description
While the implementation plan prepares students to apply their research to the problem or issue they have identified for their capstone project change proposal, the literature review enables students to map out and move into the active planning and development stages of the project.
A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Question Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a review (750-1,000 words) that includes the following sections:
Title page
Introduction section
A comparison of research questions
A comparison of sample populations
A comparison of the limitations of the study
A conclusion section, incorporating recommendations for further research
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

PICOT: Hypertension in Older Adults
Hypertension in older adults is a common problem that affects many individuals in society, and effective solutions would restore the health of a large population. The condition is critical due to extreme long-term pressure exerted on the artery wall; therefore, it can easily cause death to the elderly. The PICOT question 'Among the older adults (Population), how effective is managing stress (Intervention) compared to monitoring blood pressure (Comparison) in reducing hypertension (Outcome) within six months (T)?' requires adequate research, both qualitative and quantitative, to answer. The paper reviews the existing research by comparing the study's research questions, samples, and limitations.
Literature Review
According to Wright et al. (2018), treating hypertension requires a combination of psychoeducation with other medications. Wright et al. (2018) conducted 24 trials and identified that thiazides reduced mortality among patients with hypertension. The research question 'What are the updated solutions to hypertension?' is critical and aligns with an effective solution for mitigating the condition. The research question relates to research by Agarwal (2018), 'What are the main mediators and mechanisms of hypertension?' All the research questions advocate for a proper solution to hype tension. However, Wright et al. (2018) focus on updated solutions that effectively address hypertension. Wright et al. (2018) used a sample of 58,040 patients above 55 years, while Agarwal (2018) used 85 patients above 60 years. Therefore, getting primary information to answer the research questions for the two types of research. Despite adequate research, Wright et al. (2018) and Agarwal (2018) faced the problem of limited data since not all the patients were willing to provide actual information. However, the two types of research indicate inadequate information on updated interventions for hypertension among older adults.
According to Conroy et al. (2018), hypertension is common among older people due to inadequate medical interventions. Conroy et al. (2018) noted that treatment decisions impact the outcome of hypertension treatment by focusing on Charybdis. The research was based on a question: Why are older people prone to hypertension? Conroy et al. (2018) identified key reasons for existing hypertension among older adults and used a sample of 18 patients above 65 years. However, the noted limitation of the study is the sample size which may not provide adequate information. On the other hand, Ashoorkhani et al. (2018) focused on the non-adherence approach to treating hypertension. Ashoorkhani et al. (2018) used a sample of 35 patients without focusing on a specific age range and considered the research question 'What is the basis of non-adherence to treat hypertension?' Conroy et al. (2018) and Ashoorkhani et al. (2018) also faced unique research limitations, with Ashoorkhani et al. (2018) noting bias in the information provided. However, the research focuses on older adults, which is the basis of the PICOT question.
Rahmawati et al. (2018) also agree with Akinlua et al. (2018) that timely management of hypertension among older adults would reduce the mortality rate. Rahmawati et al. (2018)...
