Often, when people speak about physical fitness and wellness, they do from the point of view of science and medicine in which physical fitness and wellness practices are supposed to improve our health outcomes. The current course, however, adds a different dimension to this discussion. In essence, I have gathered that while physical fitness boosts our health outcomes, it also brings us closer to God: the creator of our bodies. In this reflection. I will discuss the scriptural basis for involvement in physical exercise and wellness practices and indicate that aside from gaining positive health outcomes, praising God is another reason for these practices.

Physical Fitness and Wellness

According to the College of Sports Medicine, physical fitness is a set of attributes that people achieve that boost their ability to perform physical activities (Bell et al., 2019). It involves being in shape, in good condition, having the capacity to perform daily activities with reserve energy, and the ability to engage in sustained physical activity without little or no fatigue. In other words, physical fitness is a body’s capacity to function in each trainable system associated with lowered risks of developing hypokinetic conditions. As I have gathered, this capacity to function changes with growth, age, and life involvement in these activities.

Health and wellness go hand in hand. While the former refers to the overall condition of an individual’s mind and body, the latter focuses on vitality and optimal health. Thus, wellness cannot be achieved if a person is not healthy, which boosts health prospects. The six dimensions of wellness include physical, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal, environmental, and spiritual.
