It is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Chronic pelvic pain presents in primary care as frequently as migraine or low-back pain and may significantly impact a woman’s ability to function.

Pelvic pain is a health-related condition that affects women, especially on the lower part of their abdomen. Pelvic pain may result from ovulation, gastrointestinal problems, and cramps. According to Allaire et al., (2015), infections that affect the reproductive system and organs around the reproductive organs may result in pelvic pain. Health care professionals will determine the major causes of this condition by performing pelvic tests, laparoscopy, physical examination, and pelvic ultrasound. The patient’s medical history will also serve as a way of identifying the causes of pelvic pain.
Ovulation, urinary tract infections, menstrual pain, intestinal cystitis, endometriosis, and sexually transmitted diseases are the known causes of this condition. However, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and endometriosis are the common causes that cut across all women who suffered from this condition (Petrasic, Chhabra,& Scott, 2017). Complications related to sexually transmitted infections and cervical and vaginal bacteria are the major causes of PID.
