Pediatric or Childhood obesity is a severe condition that affects young adults and children. According to Cloutier et al. (2018), obese children refer to those with weight above the normal for their BMI “Body Mass Index (BMI).”
Pathophysiology: Childhood obesity includes less exercise, which causes children to gain more weight because they do not burn calories frequently (Cuda & Censani, 2018). Also, spending much time on sedentary activities such as playing phone games and watching television causes pediatric obesity.
Epidemiology: Concerning epidemiology, approximately 19% of children and young adults in the United States have obesity (Kumanyika, 2018). As a result, the condition affects about 13.7 million adolescents and children. In the United States, Mississippi has the highest rates of pediatric obesity, while Utah has the lowest childhood obesity rate.
Physical Exam Findings: Obesity is accompanied by a resting tachycardia of less than 100 bpm and less 140 bpm in young adults and children, respectively (Cuda & Censani, 2019).
