I learned essential issues concerning asthma pathophysiology while caring for a patient suffering from the condition. Asthma is a severe social-economic and health issue globally, impacting over 300 million persons (Kudo, Ishigatsubo, & Aoki, 2013). The condition is considered an inflammatory illness in an individual’s airway, resulting in airway obstruction, hyperresponsiveness, airway wall remodeling, and mucus hyper-production (Kudo, Ishigatsubo, & Aoki, 2013). Within this care environment, I learned that asthma lacks a typical cure as it simply required symptomatic management. I implemented a specific plan for nursing and managing the condition’s symptoms. In implementing the plan, I ensured that the patient avoided exposure to allergens and certain medications. The most crucial step in managing asthma is pointing out the triggers. Inability to determine the trigger meant that the patient is put on medication. In this vein, asthma management entails lifestyle modification to prevent and control subsequent attacks.
