Neoplasm is an abnormal mass of tissue that forms when cells multiply grow more than expected. Such a mass can also occur when cells fail to die. These neoplasms can be benign, which means noncancerous or malignant which means cancerous. Basal cell carcinoma is an example of a neoplasm. It is non-melanoma cancer and is the most common malignancy. Exposure to sunlight is the most prevalent risk factor. There are ways in which basal cell carcinoma can be diagnosed. First, visual inspections to identify key features. Secondly, dermatoscopy can get a refined differential diagnosis. Finally, a biopsy is a definitive diagnostic test for basal cell carcinoma (Marzuka & Book, 2015).
The most common carcinoma that affects the oral cavity is squamous cell carcinoma. Cancer of the oral cavity is one of the most common malignancies. Smoking and the use of tobacco increases the risk of squamous cell carcinoma because polycyclic hydrocarbons and nitrosamines are carcinogenic (Marzuka & Book, 2015). Thus, avoiding smoking and tobacco is one of the ways to prevent squamous cell carcinoma.
