The use of evidence-based practise in nursing practise has the potential to reduce medical costs significantly and time taken to treat common ailments. Evidence-based practise comes with loads of benefits such as higher nursing satisfaction, better patient outcome, and greater quality care (Melnyk et al., 2010). Despite these benefits, many nurses fail to adopt these practises owing to time availability, lack of understanding of statistical data and management reluctance to adopt these methods (Brown et al., 2009). Majid et al. (2011) posits that the large number of literature published monthly makes it even difficult for nurses to adopt EBP.
The development of clinical knowledge aids in improvement of nursing practise. A nurse may know the usefulness of an evidence-based practise by querying the knowledge using a PICOT format.
