Question 1
Communication plays a vital role in any career since it is the center point for relations between people. In nursing I have learnt that communication plays a major role in an effective relationship between the patients and medics. With the relevant skills such as verbal communication I have been able to work efficiently and achieve the best (Ivanov & Blue, 2008). Through communication I can be able to manage conflicts, deal with and attend to patients well, since I can understand what they need. The course has also given me knowledge on active listening negotiation and participation. Personal communication is paramount in nursing as it plays a major role where patients are involved (Bosher & Pharris, 2008). The nurse and the patient must connect personally so that the nurse identifies the problem and is able to solve it effectively. In addition, personal connection will ensure the patient gives more details about the ailments which is positive for the treatment process.
Another area I have increased knowledge on is patient assessment and care planning. In this part I have learnt to describe the required component of the patients; identifying timelines for completion of the assessment and describing the medical records and documentation (Young & Paterson, 2006). In doing this, the goal of improving the patients well being is achieved. I have learnt how to apply measures assessment tool used in the clinical practice standards to update the patient’s progress. The two types of care include interdisciplinary where work is done collaboratively and multidisciplinary where work is done sequentially (Clark, 2008).
Question 2
Time management is among the areas of knowledge that I need to develop further; this goes more than reporting to work early and accomplishing the tasks given. I need to improve on making a list of the activities to be carried out during a specified period; this will act as a planner. I also resolve to make use of down time to think about the task ahead. This will make me prioritize on the task and accomplish it faster. At times there are so many tasks to undertake meaning that one is tempted to multitask; this increases the time spent on one task. I need to prioritize on one task to ensure it is completed effectively and on time. I have also procrastinated on a number of times; this is a habit that needs to be improved as it will enhance productivity and saves time. Moreover, I have to learn to set personal deadlines, despite the fact that they cause stress and worry, setting deadlines will help in accomplishing specific task appropriately (Feldman, 2011).
Critical analysis and personal judgment is a vital component in nursing; this is because every question matters a lot. It is necessary to identify if the claim is true. With such ideas one will enhance the understanding of the patient and contribute more to the healing process. I intend to develop the logic, and the intellectual ideas such as clarity, accuracy, relevance, precision, significance, depth, credibility, fairness and breadth. The critical thinking and analysis will be handy and relevant in problem solving (Iwasiw, et al. 2009).
