Currently I am at the university pursuing my Associate Degree in Nursing requires two years to complete. On completion, I will receive my degree certificate and immediately apply for my licensure from the NCLEX-RN that will make me a fully fledged Registered Nurse (RN). The roles of Associate Degree Nurses are numerous in the health care market. I will be a care provider, a care manager, and a member of the nursing community. Due to the skills acquired from my studies I will work making patient referrals that are need based and congruent with the available resources. The communication skills acquired will allow me to work as a communicator and establish effective communication will provide psychological safety for patients. Nurses in some instances act as teachers. Therefore, I can work as a teacher with the most important role being developing and establishing programs that will be used to teach patients that take into consideration the knowledge and level of development of the patients including what the patient needs to learn.
The IOM in its recommendations to improve health is targeting at increasing the number of qualified nurses in the health care system with a Baccalaureate Degree from 50% to 80% by 2020. To obtain a Baccalaureate Degree, I will apply for funding from the established funding programs through the PPACA geared towards assisting the IOM achieve its two targets of increasing Baccalaureate Degree Nurses and those worth doctoral degrees. I will then enroll for a masters program and on completion enroll for a Ph.D. program.
