A headache starts in parts of the body, such as the blood vessels, the nerves around the neck and the scalp face or the tissues covering the brain or muscles. The pain has to be managed by medication. Headache medications are divided into three groups. The groups are the symptomatic relief, abortive therapy, and preventive therapy. Common drugs used for the treatment include aspirin, acetaminophen, paracetamol, zolmitriptan, flunarizine and verapamil just to mention but a few (Association of Migraine Disorder, 2011).
One of the most common factors that might impact the effect of the recommended drug for a headache is gender. About seventy-five percent of all migraine headache sufferers are women. Migraine pain is very common in women across the world, regardless of the region or race.
