Self-Assessment and Reflection
Conscious leadership entails safeguarding business for future generations. Conscious leaders understand where the business is heading. They are concerned about today and how the business will be in the future (Mackey & Sisodia, 2014). While an organization may be doing well at the moment, conscious leaders keep on thinking about the entity's future. Such leaders then nurture the business to become better in the coming days. Additionally, conscious leadership seeks ways of achieving the set objectives. Leaders are constantly identifying the most appropriate methods of achieving the set goals (Marinčič & Marič, 2018). They care for and motivate individuals to create a culture where everyone feels valued. Furthermore, conscious leadership appreciates that most individuals are used to the traditional and narrow view of doing business. People used to the conventional approach tend to be resistant to any change. Conscious leaders possess the courage to withstand content criticism (Mackey & Sisodia, 2014). Theory X and Theory Y and Systems Management Theory are two historical management theories that have been instrumental in organizational behavior. Theory X and Theory Y mirrors two styles of management; authoritarian (Theory X) and participative (Theory Y) (Hattangadi, 2015). For instance, when dealing with new starters, managers may use Theory X while guiding the newbies. The systems management theory appreciates that organizations consist of multiple components that work together so that the more extensive system can operate optimally. The theory advocates that the success of an entity largely depends on synergy and interdependence between the various components (Chikere & Nwoka, 2015). The view is essential in allowing managers to appreciate the vital role employees play. Managers should seek to collaborate on various programs to function as a collective whole rather than isolated parts.
Self-awareness entails knowing one’s personality and individuality. It is a deliberate effort for individuals to invest in discovering who they are. Leaders should understand who they are and the limitations of their abilities and talents (Ashley & Reiter-Palmon, 2012). Hence, they consciously admit what they do not know rather than pretending they know everything. Self-concept refers to the way someone evaluates and considers themselves.
