The built environment and health: Introducing Individual Space-Time Behavior. Many scholars have been focusing on the relationship between the general environment and health but they have failed to explain how the environment influences health behaviors. Also, others have focused on intervention strategies on the targeted population but they have not fully implemented a model that can help individuals. Therefore, this article proposes a model that can be used to understand and predict how the individuals interact with the environment and how their behaviors in the environment result in their general health outcomes. Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The social-Ecological Model: A framework for Prevention. This article talks about the prevention of violence in the community. It has formulated a four-level model that consists of individual, relationship, community and societal factors. This model can be used to understand the factors that influence health behaviors of people in a society. It also explains how factors in one level influence another level. The first level talks about the factors that increase influences the health behavior of an individual, some of the factors that have been identifies include age, substance use, and education. The relationship level explores the closest relationships that may influence ones behavior such peers and family members. Community level examines settings like workplaces and neighborhoods while the societal level explores societal factors such as beliefs, norms, social policies, and social inequalities among the groups in the society. Factors influencing health behaviors Health behaviors of individuals can be influenced by; behavioral factors which are the actions of individuals themselves, groups or communities that live in. These factors include preventive actions, consumption and utilization of the available health resources, self-care and compliance with health policies.
