Methods to Measure Performance in Healthcare Settings
Performance measurements are an integral part of healthcare as they provide reliable information on the current state and standards of care provided by hospitals and solutions to improve any loopholes (Kruk et a., 2018). The performance measurement method I was familiar with quite early on in my career is self-evaluation. I was taught about Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Jane Watson's Theory of Human Care, both of which focused on self-actualization, esteem, selflessness, and empathy that would benefit not just the people we provide care to but also the providers. Through self-evaluation, a worker can measure their own ability to meet the healthcare facility's established benchmarks and their individual goals in terms of care. Moreover, the workers (both practitioners and paramedical staff) can recognize their level of performance and deduce ways to improve and identify any possible gaps due to poor conduct.
