Description and Contrast of Mean, Median, and Mode
Mean, mode and median are statistical terms that play a significant role in understanding the central tendency. The median is defined as the numeric value that separates the higher half within a sample, probability distribution, a population or from the lower half. In other words, the mean establishes a mathematical average on a set of numbers (Ciecka, 2011). On the other hand, the mode can be established as the frequently-occurring figure that calculates the highest frequency in a set of numbers.
The three statistical terms vary significantly since the mean depicts the average achieved when all numbers are added and divided by the number of numbers. On the other hand, the median determines the middle value within a list of figures that would require the listing of numbers in a numerical order and establishing the middle value (Ciecka, 2011). Lastly, the mode establishes the values that occur in a frequent manner, an aspect that depicts no mode in a case where there is no repetition in the numbers.
